About: i24

i24 is a 3-day celebration of computer gaming, including a huge BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN party and an unhealthy amount of fun. It all takes place 24-26 June at Newbury Racecourse, Berkshire in the United Kingdom. Read on to find out more!

Huge BYOC LAN

The i-series have always been the biggest LAN parties in the UK and i24 is going to be no exception. With room for over 1000 attendees with their computers, we're all set for the fun-packed 3 days of gaming heaven. Some people say large LANs are not very social, but those who come to the i-series soon tell a very different story! With so many like-minded gamers under one roof having a great time, the atmosphere is electric! Come along and play just about every multiplayer game under the sun with the super-fast Local Area Network. It's all about fun and enjoying the games in a friendly and very social atmosphere. Who ever said us computer gamers were antisocial anoraks!

* You can surf the web, keep in touch with email and IRC and play online massively multiplayer games over the huge 100 Megabit internet connection at the event (thanks to British Telecom). If you're into your MMO's, then playing the likes of World of Warcraft, PlanetSide, City of Heroes and Everquest with your friends when all in the same room is something you won't forget in a hurry! Access to Multiplay online game servers is also provided, but wider online game servers are restricted to keep the LAN atmosphere going.

The facilities at Newbury are excellent with free camping space for tents and caravans, free shower facilities, loads of parking and easy access to amenities, being only a few minutes drive from Newbury town centre. The catering has been much improved in recent events and we now see a number of decent trailer caterers offering a range of food from breakfast baguettes to spaghetti bolognese for the hungry gamers. Domino's Pizza are also on site and will deliver direct to your desk at the event.

Tourneys Galore!

At every i-series we have a huge array of tournaments and organised mass games to keep everyone entertained. From getting people together for a less-mainstream game, to more serious prize tournaments, there's plenty of competitive action to be had.

The list of tournaments being run at i24 is available on the tourney info page. We have over £5,000 in prizes up for grabs, including a £1,000 1st prize for Counter-Strike 1.6! Once you have paid for your BYOC place at the event, you can sign up for the tournaments. In addition to the mainstream tourneys, we always end up organising loads more games and impromptu tourneys on the day in response to gamers requests. Just ask a member of staff at the event and we'll do our best to help!

Even if you're not a top gamer, you still have the chance to take home prizes with you from an i-series event. Each event we do a raffle with loads of cool prizes donated by sponsors. The prizes vary, but usually you can expect to see cases, video cards, motherboards, other PC components and even whole PCs in the raffle! Everyone who attends as a BYOC participant gets a free ticket for the raffle and a chance to buy more to increase their chances. It's a great way to give everyone a chance to win!

Time to Socialise

The social atmosphere is a very important part of the i-Series. Even with many hundreds of gamers from all across the UK and beyond there is a great friendly atmosphere and close-knit feeling to the event. We're all gamers after all so everyone attending has something in common. To keep the vibe going even away from the PCs, we organise a number of social events, sideline activities and attractions to keep everyone entertained.

Event Bar

The event bar is a place to take some time out from the PCs and relax in a pub-style atmosphere. Held in a separate building just opposite the main building, it is also the site of one of the main organised social events at the i-Series; the bar quiz. Usually seeing over 200 people taking part in teams, the bar quiz evening always goes down an absolute treat. Definitely a night to remember at the i-series!

DDR

Dance Dance Revolution is a growing favourite at the i-series. So much so that we now have competitions and a separate area devoted to the game. If you're wondering what DDR is, it's that funny game where you see people jumping all over mats with arrows on in time to music. It's surprisingly energetic and tiring even to watch sometimes! Time to burn off that pizza and hit the mats!
