Previous Event: i14

To give you some idea of just how big and popular our events are, here's a small review of a previous event, i14:

The whole thing kicks off at 9AM on the Friday with queues of gamers anxious to get in. The venue is already partially filled as people have taken advantage of the Early Arrival service and have been turning up all evening on the Thursday to catch up with friends and generally getting settled for the weekend ahead. Microsoft have been here since Thursday setting up the XBOX Live stand, with Ubisoft, Codemasters and PC ZONE set to make an appearance during the weekend. As last minute preparations are made for the £2’500 Prize Rainbow Six: Raven Shield tournament courtesy of Ubisoft, the whole place is ready to roll. The Multiplay UK staff are all in position when the doors open, and the punters come flooding through. First thing's first; Booking in.

Once you're all booked in, a Network Technician shows you to your seat and helps you out with any problems you may encounter in connecting to the network. This will include installing your NIC (Network Card) for you if you do not have one and have bought one for the event. Once you're up and running, the fun begins.

The first day is mainly spent getting used to playing in a low-lag environment, and can be quite disconcerting for those used to leading their shots online due to lag. Once you've played a few games though, you'll be fine, and ready for some real gaming. Many public servers adorn the network, and these are all on high-speed, low-lag servers to give you the ultimate in smooth multiplayer gaming.

Over the course of the event, many tournaments are run, both competitively and for fun. These range from the ever-popular Counter-Strike, Team Fortress Classic and Quake III through to fun games such as Midtown Madness 2, StarCraft, Battlefield 1942 and more.

Of course, LAN gaming is not just about the games, it's also about the social aspect of being able to meet the people you play with and against. The bar and food areas are great places to sit back, relax and enjoy the company of fellow gamers. Talk about games, or don't!

As well as the social and gaming aspects of the event, our list of sponsors will also be entertaining you all. At i14, we had Ubisoft with their £2’500 Prize Raven Shield tournament based on an exclusive demo they provided to us. With 63 clans competing for first place, the tournament really was loads of fun, not to mention frantic! Codemasters were also there with yet another exclusive of their beta demo of the upcoming Project IGI 2, which we had the pleasure of being the first to see. For you hardware guru’s we had Coolcasemods.com supplying the modding community with all the equipment they could possibly want along with Everglide and their high performance mouse surfaces.

Multiplay UK also get involved themselves, often spending spare time (the little they have, that is!) playing amongst the punters, and just generally getting to know people. The main event for MPUK staff though is the much-maligned Boat Race, where a team of staff squares off against a team of punters and try to out-drink each other in a race. Great fun!

Well, that should give you some idea of just what goes on at these events. If you haven't signed up, do so now (left menu) and we'll see you there!

Some quotes from punters after i14

"Staff: Not a single bad word to say about them. The tech support guys were great. 1 or 2 of our clan had major problems getting on the network and the staff didn’t leave their machines until they worked, You just can’t ask for anymore than that."

"All I have to say about the event is well played Multiplay for another great LAN. The network was flawless (gotta love those extreme switches) with low pings and no packet loss, no power outages at all."

"Brilliant LAN! Loved every minute of it!"

"Thought it was top notch, my first LAN and the location on the first floor was great - a really nice community spirity thing and the tourneys were ace."

"This was my first LAN also. How superb, the atmosphere was cool, the tournaments were fun to play in, met loads of nice gamers (some I know, some I don’t) and I will most certainly come back for more!"

"First i-series LAN for me, damned impressive network you’ve got. The time and effort that goes in is amazing."
