About: Previous Event: i10
To give you some idea of just how big and popular our events are, here's a small review of a previous event, i10:
The whole thing kicks off at 9AM on the Friday for the event. People are already queuing up outside and there's a buzz in the atmosphere. Microsoft have already been in the event the previous night setting up the XBox X-Perience stand, along with CDV, Neocron and many other sponsors. The whole place is ready to roll, and the Multiplay UK staff are all in position. The doors open, and the punters come flooding through. First thing's first; Booking in.
Once you're all booked in, a Network Technician shows you to your seat and helps you out with any problems you may encounter in connecting to the network. This will include installing your NIC for you if you do not have one and have bought one for the event. Once you're up and running, the fun begins.
The first day is mainly spent getting used to playing in a low-lag environment, and can be quite disconcerting for those used to leading their shots online due to lag. Once you've played a few games though, you'll be fine, and ready for some real gaming. Many public servers adorn the network, and these are all on high-speed, low-lag servers to give you the ultimate in smooth multiplayer gaming.
Over the course of the event, many tournaments are run, both competitively and for fun. These range from the ever-popular Counter-Strike and Team Fortress 1.5 through to fun games such as Midtown Madness 2, StarCraft and more.
Of course, LAN gaming is not just about the games, it's also about the social aspect of being able to meet the people you play with and against. The bar and food areas are great places to sit back, relax and enjoy the company of fellow gamers. Talk about games, or don't!
As well as the social and gaming aspects of the event, our list of sponsors will also be entertaining you all. At i10, we had CDV supplying Mini Combat, a flash-based strategy game playable over the network, along with Neocron, their first ever massively-multiplayer RPG. Coolcasemods.com were also there supplying the modders in the community with all the equipment they could possibly want.
Multiplay UK also get involved themselves, often spending spare time (the little they have, that is!) playing amongst the punters, and just generally getting to know people. The main event for MPUK staff though is the much-maligned Boat Race, where a team of staff squares off against a team of punters and try to out-drink each other in a race. Great fun!
Well, that should give you some idea of just what goes on at these events. If you haven't signed up, do so now (left menu) and we'll see you there!
